Services

I work with writers pursuing a range of goals—whether they're preparing to submit to an in-house editor, seeking a literary agent, or planning to self-publish. Services I offer include:

EDITORIAL ASSESSMENT

Drawing on more than a decade’s experience acquiring and editing books at Doubleday, I evaluate manuscripts the same way a publisher would: looking closely at character, structure, narrative momentum, the emotional experience of the reader, and where the book might fit into the current marketplace.

Is your protagonist actively driving the story, or reacting to events around them? Are their motivations, desires, and fears clear on the page? Does each scene build tension and move the narrative forward?

In a detailed editorial letter, my feedback highlights what’s working, identifies areas for improvement, and offers concrete suggestions for revision—along with the reasoning behind them—so you can apply these insights to future projects.

DEVELOPMENTAL EDIT

For writers looking for more in-depth feedback, I provide detailed margin comments throughout your manuscript—flagging specific issues, asking questions, noting standout lines, and offering prompts to deepen characterization and strengthen storytelling. You’ll also receive a comprehensive editorial letter that adds broader context and guidance to support the margin notes. This service includes a follow-up call to discuss the feedback, answer questions, and help you plan your next steps.

SUBMISSION MATERIALS REVIEW

A compelling query letter is about more than just spelling the agent’s name correctly. I’ll help ensure yours stands out for all the right reasons—clear positioning, a strong story hook, and well-chosen comp titles.

Looking for a more in-depth review? I also offer a full query package critique, which includes your query letter, a one-page synopsis, and the first pages of your manuscript, along with a follow-up call.

MANUSCRIPT COACHING CALL

A coaching call offers a chance to connect one-on-one with a publishing professional. Whether you're looking to better understand the industry, discuss book ideas, workshop revisions, or troubleshoot obstacles, this session is designed to support your creative process. $200/hour
